A Complete Unknown Review

Every awards season there is a biopic anchored by a “transformative performance” from a big named actor that scoops up a ton of nominations as well as the hearts of viewers and awards voters everywhere. That’s not to say that these types of movies don’t have merit as many of them do! Nevertheless, it is a pattern we see repeated year after year. This year’s entry into that collection of films is A Complete Unknown from director James Mangold starring Timotheé Chalamet as Bob Dylan. On paper, the film checks a lot of boxes for “awards bait,” but does it come together to make a respectable biopic rather than another cookie cutter formula biopic?
