Up until the MOMENT of writing this, I have mistakenly called this series, now in its second season, Daredevil: Reborn. Is that a better title? I’m not sure. Is Season 2 better than the first (of the reboot)? I’m absolutely positive it is.
But first, a trip down memory lane to why Daredevil is so beloved.
NETFLIX VS. DAREDEVIL REBORN BORN AGAIN
The strategy with Netflix’s Daredevil in 2015 was to expand the superhero universe. The silver screen MCU was organically evolving into bigger battles, intergalactic missions, and giant super heroes and villains. The Marvel catalogue of characters was barely touched, and producers wanted to see how a street level character would perform in the young world of streaming as well as with mature themes and violence.
An audience was formed overnight for (2) reasons:
1: they loved the execution
2: they loved that the entire season dropped at once.
Season 1-3 of the Netflix Daredevil work well in drama, in combat, in costume, and in world building. Then it all ended with Disney+’s announcement.

SEASON ONE (Disney+)
Disney first rebooted Daredevil with a tease in Spider-man: No Way Home. Many cameos were anticipated in the trilogy finale for Tom Holland’s fan-favorite iteration of Spider-man. Perhaps no one anticipated we would ever see Charlie Cox enter the world of the MCU again. It was met with an overwhelming celebratory roar of applause at theatres across the globe.
As Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 released to an UNDERWHELMING response. The street fighting was there, but the storytelling and creative combat was gone. So much CGI was used for NO REASON, and the writers room misguidedly mirrored Kingpin and Dardevil’s conflicts too close to real world problems. I am all for making a bold statement through art…but this wasn’t bold. It was lazy.

SEASON TWO SPOILER FREE NOTES (STREAMING 3/24/26)
We like to stay spoiler free here on Popcorn for Breakfast, which is great for this season review because Disney REALLY wants us to stay spoiler free.
HIGHLIGHTS:
As seen from the promo material, Jessica Jones AND Bullseye are returning. Their addition to this season helps navigate the central conflict, heightening the danger of each battle we encounter AND giving us more gray area character moments begging the audience to ask “at what point does a superhero’s actions make them a hero or a villain?”.
Jessica Jones and Bullseye are absolute stand outs in this season. Wilson Bethel as Bullseye (and likely in any acting role) should be awarded. He’s holding this episode together in a fascinating and grounded way. It reminds me of how good Ben Barnes played opposite of Jon Bernthal in The Punisher. Excellent character foils and actors. Krysten Ritter, much like Charlie Cox, was born to play her character. No notes. Then there’s Vincent D’Onofrio, who was given a poor script in the first season. The writers have very much redeemed him here and returned him to his original form.
The combat is leveled up, which was greatly missed in season 1. As the Netflix season began the episode three trend (which then continued through all of its seasons, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, The Defenders, and the ill-fated Iron Fist), expect a jaw dropping battle that you will rush to discuss with your other Daredevil-head.
Expect some slower episodes to give time to build the character development. I’m still not sold on some of the additions from Season One of Born Again, but by the end of the season, the character balance is better than how it begins.
Be on the lookout for Episode 5 to absolutely rock your world. It’s filled with so many incredible moments, that I cannot speak about ANYTHING in it. Once you hit this episode, episodes 6-8 fly by, with a critical ending that I speculate will spill back to the big screen. How can that be? What happens? YOU’LL HAVE TO WATCH AND SEE!

Season 2 is a transitional season, returning to what brought us here in the first place. It’s not perfect, but it’s not sloppy like the initial attempt. This is proof that Disney show runners CAN listen AND can make changes that help shape stories in the best interest of the characters and the audience.
Here’s hoping when season 3 drops (someday) that it will be the best season ever.
Series Score: 6.3/10 kernels
